Pinterest moved up the launch of its “Today” feature, a tab on the social media platform where users can find out what’s trending across the world and the Pinterest network. The social media site has seen increased usage since the start of the coronavirus (COVID-19) crisis, and it wants to offer its users daily inspiration during these difficult days.

The Pinterest “Today” Tab Shares Wide-Ranging Trends

Twitter_Pinterest tweeted about their new Today tab to give people daily inspiration.

Pinterest already offers the “For You” tab, essentially the home screen, which features personalized recommendations for individual users. “Today” focuses more broadly on trends and topics that interest users. Pinterest explains, “Just click ‘Today’ at the top of your home feed from your iOS or Android app for new ideas each day. Recommendations will include a handful of topics. We’ll start with ideas curated by the Pinterest team, and in the future will also feature guest editors.”

While coronavirus remains a concern, the Pinterest “Today” tab will also include information on COVID-19, including updates from the Center for Disease Control (CDC) and the World Health Organization (WHO). Other trending topics right now on Pinterest include meal planning, lessons plans, crafts and growing vegetables, many of which are featured in the “Today” tab.

While Self-Isolating, Users Are More Active On Social Media

Like Twitter and Facebook, Pinterest has seen a major uptick in usage while self-isolating during coronavirus. “As people adjust to a new normal, they’re coming to Pinterest to stay inspired. In fact, over the last weekend, we saw an all-time high around the world with more saves and searches on the platform than any other weekend in our history,” indicated Pinterest in their press release about the launch of “Today.” Adding, “And in the U.S., more people than ever were sending Pins to one another and idea sharing, with messages sent through our Send a Pin feature up 34%.”

The increased engagement from Pinterest’s 322 million active users makes the launch of “Today” a thoughtful move by Pinterest. The new Pinterest content outlet that provides both information and inspiration, is perfect for today and may help the brand boost engagement once the coronavirus crisis is over. The Pinterest “Today” feature launched last week.
